Mowglis Review – July 2022
A new restaurant, at least for us, located in the countryside just outside Stony Stratford. Our planned visit, over two years ago when it tried to open, scuppered by Covid.
It’s a very nicely decorated and laid out restaurant with plenty of authentic Indian feel about it. We had a drink in the bar before the meal, as there are no pubs very close by. The staff greeted us and were all very pleasant.
After a couple of drinks we were sat down in nice quiet corner, not at a round table as they had promised on booking, but never the less adequate enough. The service was clearly short staffed, although they did their best, it was pretty haphazard and slow to get drinks and order the food. When the orders were taken the starter and the main course came very quickly.
In general, the starters and the mains were all well presented, generous and tasty. Be advised to ask for your dish as spicy as you like it as they generally tend to be on the milder side. I liked that the menu had the prices rounded up without this .99p nonsense.
We were filmed by them while eating, perhaps they consider us VIP’s? Hope it doesn’t end up on the internet somewhere, we are not exactly photogenic!
A very nice evening, on the expensive side, especially the bottles of Cobra, but, of course, everything is now going up in price. Good value overall though.

Also, check out the scores and the common curry.
Common Curry – At the more expensive end.
Certificate – A 2 star certificate awarded based on the scores but they really are better then that. We will have to return when the staffing levels have been sorted out.

Positive | Negative |
---|---|
Good pops and pickles | Haphazard, but enthisiastic, service at the start, getting drinks and ordering food |
Good king prawn puree, could have been spicier | Had to ask again for the spicy pops |
Meat platter starter (shared) very good | Music from a speaker high in the corner but could’t hear it |
Lamb chops starter, 3 of them, tasty but quite small | Lamb Sizzler Mowgli – very mild |
Chicken Pathia, excellent medium spice | Menu should indicate spice strengths better |
Very good Lamb Jalfrezi Balti, but Judge Balti said it wasn’t a balti! | |
Boss Lamb Curry, excellent, even though it was pre-dished onto a plate | |
Rice very good, decent portions | |
Good naans | |
