Jalori Review – June 2024

June 2024 led us to Woburn Sands, to the long established Jalori, where hadn’t visited for quite some time. Rendezvous in the Fir Tree public house. A short walk led us to the restaurant, where we were seated promptly at out eight-person table. First impressions where that this is a very popular restaurant, since is was probably 75% full.

The menu is extensive, including all the standards and a good range of specialities. Poppadums, dips and drinks were served efficiently, and I chose king prawn puree to start. The prawns and sauce were excellently balanced, neither overpowering the other. It was a good sized portion which I enjoyed very much. Others suggested the puree was a little heavy, but it was fine for me. Others starters tasted were Mass Biran, a white fish starter and the classic Special Mix. Onion bhajis might have been a little dry, but the starters were enjoyed on the whole.

For main course, I chose Rajasthani Laal Maas, a personal favourite. I have to say I was disappointed since it was no where near as spicey as I  have found in other restaurants and the lamb may have been a little overcooked. A balti dish from another diner which I tried tasted nothing like a balti (I spent several years in SE Birmingham) but that is normal for every balti I’ve tasted in MK. Veg, rice and naans were all good and the minor criticisms are of course, subjective.

The service throughout the evening was excellent and MKCurry had a very enjoyable evening. Coming back to the service and high number folks dining, this restaurant is clearly doing a good job for Woburn Sands.

Also, check out the scores and the common curry.

Common Curry – The more expensive end.
Certificate –  No certificate awarded. The main courses, especially the Laal Maas, let it down badly. They lacked spice and heat, even when indicated on the menu.
