Spice Village Review – June 2023

Beers in the Talbot for some, a tidy Ember Inns pub. The surprising thing was how quiet the restaurant was. In the past it has always been quite busy on a Friday evening.

Five of us were seated in a comfortable corner ‘booth’ and found a different menu than we’d known. No familiar faces in the staff suggests it may have changed management since our last visit. The menu contained some fairly standard dishes together unusual meals.

As usual, we started with poppadums and pickles,  fresh and piquant. I stray too far from traditional, with a mixed kebab starter and lamb madras main. Bread and side dishes were good.

Everyone enjoyed their meals without raving about anything. Service was good and timely and it was a very pleasant evening. My view is that Spice Village is a good ‘local’ but not quite worthy of a special trip. See the scoring to confirm whether this is the feeling of the group.
